Ztravelbug will be making its annual pilgrimage to Hadong County for a weekend of relaxed trekking and climbing. We will walk the banks of the Seomjin River resting at Hwagae Market and then onwards to Ssanggyesa Temple taking in the scenic and cultural splendor of the region. On Sunday, we will hike Jirisan and witness the grandeur of nature while breathing in the blossoming flora on our ascent.

Ssanggyesa is a head temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism. It is located on the southern slopes of Jirisan, southwest of sacred Samshin-bong Peak, in the Hwagye-dong Valley of Hwagae-myeon, Hadong County, in the province of Gyeongsangnam-do, South Korea.
The temple was founded in 722 by two disciples of Uisang named Sambeop and Daebi. It is said that they were guided to the location by a Jiri-sanshin in the form of a tiger, after being instructed by him in dreams to look for a site where arrowroot flowers blossomed through the snow. They had traveled China for study, and returned with the skull of and a portrait of "Yukcho" (Hui-neng, the Sixth Patriarch of Zen Buddhism) which they respectively buried under the Main Hall and enshrined in it.
Jirisan is a mountain in the southern region of South Korea. It is often considered one of the three most important mountains in South Korea, with Hallasan and Seoraksan being the other two.
The mountain rises to 1915 meters above sea level and is located in a designated national park of the same name. Jirisan National Park spans three provinces: North, South Jeolla and South Gyeongsang and is the largest in Korea. The largest proportion of the national park is in the province of South Gyeongsang. The highest peak of the mountain, Cheonhwangbong is also located in this province. Another well-known peak is Samshin-bong (Three Spirits Peak).
Jirisan is considered the southern end of the Sobaek mountain range, and therefore also the southern end of the Baekdudaegan mountain range, the "spine" of the Korean Peninsula incorporating the Sobaek mountain range and most of the Taebaek mountain range.

3pm- trek along the Seomjin Gang to Hwagae Market
5pm- go to Ssanggyesa Temple
7pm- return to motel
April 6
8am- breakfast (included)
9am- hike Jirisan
3pm- descend the mountain
9pm- return to Seoul
