Takara Tomy has announced a new collaboration between its iconic Licca-chan fashion doll line and the anime series The Apothecary Diaries. The new The Apothecary Diaries Maomao Licca-chan doll will be released in Japan on October 24, 2026, with a suggested retail price of ¥5,500 including tax.
Pre-orders will begin through Takara Tomy Mall on August 27. The doll is also planned for release in several international markets, including China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, the United States and Canada.
The Apothecary Diaries has become a major hit both in Japan and internationally, with the series surpassing 57 million copies worldwide. The collaboration arrives as excitement around the franchise continues to grow, with the anime’s third season scheduled to begin on October 2, 2026, followed by the theatrical film The Apothecary Diaries: The Late Consort’s Hidden Treasure on December 11.
The franchise has also proven popular with overseas fans. At Anime Expo 2026, Takara Tomy Arts’ The Apothecary Diaries capsule toys sold out early.
Licca-chan herself has also been expanding internationally, with the brand launching in North America in March 2026. Takara Tomy says it aims to introduce more people around the world to Japanese culture through Licca-chan, while preserving the fashion, visual identity and attention to detail associated with the brand.
The new Maomao Licca-chan reimagines Licca-chan as Maomao, the protagonist of The Apothecary Diaries. While adapting the character to Licca-chan’s distinctive doll style, Takara Tomy has tried to recreate Maomao’s appearance as faithfully as possible.
The doll features several of Maomao’s signature details, including her freckles, bandage-style wrapping on her left arm, hairstyle and costume. Takara Tomy also created a new hair color never previously used for Licca-chan in order to more closely match Maomao’s distinctive hair. Her eyes are a subdued blue inspired by the character, while the clothing recreates the colors and silhouette of Maomao’s outfit from the series.
