I wanted to return much more to the pre-Hispanic roots of the Day of the Dead, to the so-called 'Mictlan', the place of the dead. According to Nahua mythology, it is the path to the place where the souls rest after their transcendence on this plane. Considering this, I wanted to simplify the costume of the catrina by making a pure white dress, playing with volumes characteristic of the clothing of indigenous peoples, the pleated skirts of the Oaxacan chinas. The dress is decorated with the emblematic cempasúchil flower, forming a path. The sash at the waist is a representation of a backstrap loom, which is a typical work of the master artisans of our country.
In honor of Día de Muertos, Barbie teams with renowned Mexican designer Kris Goyri to celebrate this festival of remembrance. Showcasing Goyri’s signature fusion of traditional Mexican culture with modern elements, Barbie doll wears a pleated white gown with voluminous sleeves, accented by vibrant marigold flowers and a festive headpiece. Her look is complete with a turquoise necklace featuring a radiant golden pendant, plus matching earrings, and bold burgundy boots.
